“The Bells & Whistles On Casino Slot Machines Don’t Mean You’re Actually Winning Anything” Gee, Ya think??? consumerist.com/2013/07/08/the…
Here’s what I’m going to (or planning to go to) for the balance of this summer and beyond. Can’t say I didn’t tell you!
Sat July 18th – Stemm, A Thousand Shades Of Cold, + Others @ Montage Music Hall, Rochester. This is a “most likely” for the local boys, and I think Adam’s coming up for this one.
Saturday July 25th – The Tragically Hip @ Highland Bowl, Rochester. Have tickets.
Thursday July 30th – Killswitch Engage, Rise Against, Rancid, Billy Talent, All That Remains @ Erie Co. Fairgrounds Agri-Center, Hamburg/Buffalo. Adam and I have tickets.
Friday July 31st – Hatebreed, Chimaira, + Others @ Water Street, Rochester. Have tickets.
Sunday August 9th – Zone 94.1 Bonzai – Sevendust, Street Sweeper Social Club, Tantric, + Others @ Riverside Festival Site, Rochester. Don’t have tickets yet, as its the day after Pat and Jodi’s wedding, but I think we’ll be back in time, at least to see 7D. Planning on going.
Friday August 14th – East End Fest @ The East End, Rochester. Don’t know who’s playing, don’t really care. We’ll be there.
Friday August 21st – Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco @ Darien Lake. Tiff and I got cheap lawn seats.
Friday September 4th – Cake @ Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo. Don’t know any details yet, but suffice to say we’re going.
Saturday September 5th – Crue Fest: Motley Crue, Godsmack, Theory Of A Deadman + Others @ Darien Lake. Adam and I are on the lawn.
Saturday September 12th – Tonic @ Turning Stone Casino, Verona. Tiff and I scored some sweet seats for this one.
Wednesday September 16th – Down, The Melvins @ Main Street Armory, Rochester. Don’t have tickets yet, but I’ll most likely be going.
Friday September 25th – Sixpin @ The Tralf, Buffalo. The local boys headline, and I’ll most likely be heading to this.
Sunday October 11th – Every Time I Die @ Water Street, Rochester. On the fence, might go, might not.
Tuesday November 3rd – Edwin McCain @ Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica. A Tiff acoustic show.
Tuesday November 10th – Metallica, Lamb Of God @ HSBC Arena, Buffalo. On the floor baby!!
What’s up with this fluffy white garbage? I didn’t sign up for it this early I don’t believe. Good thing I had the scrapers in the car already.
Upon first run-through, the new Toadies album, No Deliverance, sounds like vintage Toadies. In other words, it’s pretty good!
Due to someone (who, me? never.) neglecting to re-up until the last minute, my team is now going to be playing volleyball on Wednesday nights, same as Tiff. Hot Shots mayhem all around! Well, sorta. We equaled last sessions 8-19 record, (that’s a .421 winning percentage for those scoring at home) good for 10th place (out of 12 teams). The last place team was 2-25, so we can at least say we’re better than them!
I never did do the Falls trip recap. We had a good time, and hit mostly everything a tourist would hit, including Casino Niagara, Clifton Hill, the Hershey Store, the SkyWheel, the Floral Clock, Butterfly Conservatory, White Water Walk, Maid of the Mist, Journey Behind The Falls, the Inclined Railway, Fallsview Casino, and the Niagara Falls Bird Kingdom, which was actually really really cool. I actually had a really good time, because as I kept saying all weekend, I never really did the touristy stuff when I’d go over. I could tell you where the bars were, and that was about it! Having said that, I don’t have to do any of it again for awhile now 🙂 The new Doubletree down the street from Fallsview where we stayed was very nice as well.
So what’s to look forward to? Sabres games, Halloween, and uh, sitting at home. Hopefully not shoveling snow for awhile yet.
Never a dull moment at work, even with the seniors….
One of the bus drivers that transports the old folks to the casino hit a light pole in the parking lot. At 10am, there’s barely anyone in the lot, and there’s tons of open space. How the hell do you manage that?
Work today was slow until about 3 in the afternoon, when all hell broke loose. Today was Veterans Day, so we were a bit busier than normal, but not much. Still, all the crazies were at the casino today. We had a man and a woman practically get into a shoving match over who was going to play a machine, another man just about shoved a floor attendant (and said attendant is a pretty big guy!), and the most impatient people in the world all descended on us today. Hope you don’t win, suckers.
Speaking of winning though, I hope I do win… the lottery. I usually buy a quick-pick for the Mega Millions and the regular lotto. I also picked up a ticket for the special King Kong drawing that the lottery is doing on Dec. 5th. I’m such a lottery whore now, but I figure, in some indirect way, by supporting the lottery, I support my job. Besides, it’s for the children!!
So the final tally on the drive home this evening: 1 poor sap whose engine burned on the 490, 1 poor sap pulled over on Rt. 15, and 1 really poor sap with a Buffalo Sabres license plate reading “1HASEK”. Free Agency sucks, don’t it?
At least the Sabres played well tonight. It certainly was a hell of a game to watch, I hope the next 7 games against the Leafs are the same way. More than I can say for the Lightning lately, losers of 6 straight, and they’ve looked bad doing it. Let’s give John Grahme some help, eh? The goalie can’t do it all when the defense hangs him out to dry. Kovalchuk scoring four goals in a row doesn’t help either.
We’d usually be out and about somewhere on a Friday night, but Tiffany is a bit under the weather. She conked out on the couch, and I picked up the place a little, did some laundry, watched hockey and surfed the net all night. Which, naturally, is why I’m brain dumping on the website for the first time in awhile.
Ripping off Sara, here’s the upcoming concert calendar. Shows in bold are things I either already have tickets for, or plan to have tickets fairly soon.

It’s been a fairly low-key weekend this time around, which is never a bad thing. Friday was mainly lounging around after we couldn’t decide on anything at all at Blockbuster to rent. Saturday was some homework for Tiff while I went out running around, then we did some running around together in the afternoon. The fun part was at night though, the Amerks played a pre-season game at the ESL Center (the rink on MCC’s campus) against the St John’s Maple Leafs, and won 5-1. It was great to see some high-caliber (albeit not NHL level) action, and to a lesser extent, hockey in general. Had a couple fights, some exciting goals, end to end rushes. Makes me excited for the home opener next friday!

During our shopping travels yesterday, Tiff and I checked out the new Kohl’s for the second time. While Tiff was looking for clothes, I was rather suprised at the disarray in which the clothes displays were left in the womens sections. Now, is it not the women that usually complain that the men are slobs? Of course it is, but next time you go to a department store, especially if theres “huge sales”, notice the stark contrast between the men’s and women’s sections. The women’s section will have the clothes thrown every which way, just decimated. The men’s section will be just as neat and orderly as it was found originally. Why is this? For a gender that prides themselves on being so neat and pretty, why the madness? As a side note to this observation, speaking off-hand with the maintenance people at the casino (both male and female), all agree that the women’s bathrooms are always more filthy and disgusting than the men’s. What could the ladies possibly be doing in there? Some things, the world may never know.

Bonus points to anyone that recognizes the song lyric in the title. Difficulty: No Google searches 🙂
We survived the Labor Day Weekend at the casino with flying colors, in fact we seemed to have fewer problems than we normally do. Which made for happy customers and even happier techs! On Saturday, Tiff’s folks came up to get the ball rolling on her car purchase, and then stopped by the track for lunch. Tiff’s mom happened to be in the “hot seat” for the Bally promotion that was running, and got some free-play vouchers out of the deal. Talk about luck! Sunday was a record day for the track, and like I said, went rather smoothly. Monday was quite busy as well, and we only had one idiot customer, who claimed that he was going to call the papers about how this place was illegal and ripping him off. Sure. You go now. 🙂
On an unrelated note, everyone is back at RIT, which means everyone is back at Wegmans, Target, or wherever we choose to shop. The summer was so nice with half the people here! This is good however, as after our excellent wings at Jeremiah’s sunday night with Adam and Kevin, there were people at our third stop, Wild Wings, including the 3303 UC bunch! I’m kind of mixed, its cool having people around, but not when theyre in my way 🙂
Yesterday was an interesting day. I started out by having to head back to the little Indian-run “casino” in Union Springs to fix a couple of problems for them. I put casino in quotes, because this facility was an old auto parts store that was converted to have approximately 100 SDG games in it. The usual tech that services that site (they don’t have an on-site tech) was somewhere in Arizona, so I got pressed into duty to help them out. In any event, I was out of there by 11:30 and back at Finger Lakes. The rest of work went fine, and then when I got home, Tiff and I hit up the Distillery for dinner. Yum! We headed to Wegmans to try and get Tiff some cannollis, but to no avail. 🙁 Later on in the evening one of my old ETC buddies Matt T. had a party at his UC apartment, so we checked that out and had a pretty good time… saw all the “cool” ETC people 🙂 One more day of work for me, then Sunday is the co-op picnic (you’ll hear more about that later).
And now, allow me to geek out for a moment… there was an article on slashdot that was quite fascinating about what are essentially remote-controlled screws, nuts and bolts, and various potential applications of them… a very interesting read!
I’ve no doubt told people this many times, but the casino is a great place to people-watch. Nothing like spending a slow Tuesday night shift commenting on the customers. Quote of the night from a co-worker…
“It’s a wonderland of dental decay!”
And it certainly is… There’s countless people that I’ve said hi to, smiled at, etc., and have gotten back *ahem* less than a toothy grin in response. Makes one think, if they have the money to drop into slot machines, why not save some of that and take a trip to the dentist? (Don’t tell me they’re playing to win money to go to said dentist… I’m sure you have a bridge to sell me also.)
